Past Presentations
- The annual meeting of the American Osteopathic Association held in Orlando, Florida, October 30 to November 3, 2011. Of the multiple practice groups holding educational sessions at the same time, will be the American Osteopathic College of Occupational and Preventive Medicine. Dr. Barbara Manis Gots presented the opening session on “Healthy Buildings: Evaluation of Illnesses Associated with the Indoor Environment.” She discussed the types of pollutants, potential pathways and pressure differentials which can enable a clinician to understand the types of potential exposures, their duration and dose which are important in assessing likely causation. Her talk also focused on distinguishing whether disorders in the workplace are toxicodynamic or psychodynamic. Finally, the clinical need for the differential diagnostic process was distinguished from the legal requirements for causation.
- Southern States Servicing Conference (Sept 27 & 28, 2011 in Grapevine, Texas) "Mortgage Banking in the 21st Century" was the overall theme of the TMBA Southern States Servicing Conference. "Maintaining the Asset: Corrosive Drywall," was the focus of an address by Barbara A. Manis, MD, invited speaker. Dr. Manis presented the current state of the science regarding, first, the underlying cause of the corrosive capabilities of drywall imported from China during the housing boom and the aftermath of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. Second, she then discussed the scientifically-proven methodologies available to remediate homes affected by corrosive drywall and the clearance procedures capable of proving that problematic drywall has been removed, thus converting the liability of a contaminated home into an asset.
